Meet our Rabbi

Rabbi Companez was ordained at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in May 2002.  In a previous life, she worked as an administrative assistant to the Director of Development of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, amongst other positions. 

She was very active in many voluntary capacities in her congregation in Melbourne , Australia .  She was instrumental in the founding of a lay-led Reform congregation, and she was one of the founding members of the Reform Zionist youth movement, Netzer, in Melbourne Australia .

Rabbi Companez has been the rabbi of Temple Beth El since August 2002.  Prior to that, she spent four years studying for the Rabbinate in Cincinnati, Ohio.

During her time as rabbi of Temple Beth El, she has conducted several Taste of Judaism courses, designed to introduce people to the basics of Judaism.  These courses attracted many people from the Flint and surrounding areas.

She has also run Introduction to Judaism courses, and has offered courses in basic Hebrew.

Rabbi Companez lived in Israel for over four years and is fluent in Hebrew.
